Supreme Court Building – Muscat

#travelwithgdp Fact: The last case of capital punishment in Oman was in 2001. The person was convicted of murder and drug trafficking.

Description: As most Islamic countries, Oman’s court system is a mix of inquisitorial and adversary. This being said the judge’s role is not absolutely always the same. All of these courts hear all criminal, civil and commercial cases, but personal matters are referred to the Sharia courts. The Sharia courts are Islamic courts. The presumption of guilt of innocence is decided by the judge unless it is a Supreme court case, in which the Supreme court and the Sultan make the decision.
